Jesus Was Palestinian

“If Christ was born today, he would be born under the rubble. I invite you to see the image of Jesus in every child killed and pulled under the rubble.” - Reverend Munther Isaac (@munther.isaac) of the Lutheran Church in Bethlehem in his Sunday Sermon, December 2023

Artist statement:
I was moved to paint this image in protest of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The art installation on which I based the painting was created by Reverend Munther Isaac of the Lutheran Church in Bethlehem in December 2023.

As described in a speech given by Nazek Sankari of USPCN-Chicago in 2024, the UN estimates there are 60,000 pregnant women and people in Gaza. A child is born every 10 minutes. The image and horrific reality of a baby born amongst the rubble occurs 144 times every. single. day.

Palestinian women are plagued with miscarriages and stillbirths due to the unimaginable stress, malnutrition, and US/Israel-engineered starvation that have come to be key tenets of this genocide. Many pregnant people undergo c-sections and delivery without anesthesia.
